Are you re-thinking your social media marketing strategy?
Which social media platforms should your business focus on?
Are you being told that social media is on the way out?
As a small business or restaurant owner, we know that it’s hard to keep up with the latest in social media marketing. So let us break down the most recent numbers for you.
Pew Research Center is a leading authority when it comes to trends and attitudes that shape our industry. Recently, they polled over 2,000 adults in the US regarding their social media habits and published their findings in their Social Media Use in 2018 article.
Based on their findings, this is why our social media strategy works for small business.
FACEBOOK CONTINUES TO DOMINATE SOCIAL MEDIA
Facebook tops the charts
As indicated by the chart below, roughly two-thirds of U.S. adults (68%) report that they are Facebook users. This is only slightly behind YouTube – which contains very little social elements as it is primarily for video sharing.
Most Facebook users check it daily (if not more) as roughly three-quarters of those users access Facebook on a daily basis.
Just a tad over half (51%) say they check it several times a day.
Everyone’s on Facebook
The majority of Americans across a wide range of demographic groups use Facebook.
Don’t believe the lie that the younger generation is not on Facebook. When we break down the numbers, more 18-29 year olds use Facebook than any other age demographic.
On the horizon
As indicated by these findings, we can’t ignore Instagram. This photo-sharing platform has experienced the most growth since Facebook purchased it in 2012.
In 2012, less than 20% of Americans were using Instagram. Now, that number has nearly doubled. Just from one year prior to this survey, that number increased by 7%. That’s remarkable growth, but it still remains in Facebook’s shadow.
Re-think your marketing strategy
With three-fourths of the US population on Facebook, there’s just no reason for your brand not to be on there. You want to reach your consumer where they are daily? Maybe multiple times a day? Get your business on Facebook.
